What is Doubles League?
The doubles league provides competitive players the opportunity to play once a month with/against players of a similar level from other clubs in the region, in a competition outside of tournaments.
We want the competition to be:
- Fair (the structure of the competition shouldn't favour any individuals or groups)
- Even (the groups should be evenly balanced so that there will not be excessive targeting)
- Fun (getting to play with lots of great players who all want to be there for fun should equal fun!)
- Transparent (clear rules; accessibility to the results and league tables)
Finally, we want to raise some funds for Pickleball England to help grow pickleball.
How it works
Players sign up and pay per fixture(s). There will be one primary fixture per month. An overflow fixture may be created if capacity is reached.
Registration will close 24 hours before each fixture or when capacity is reached.
SW County Reps (Simon Farr, Roberto Rospo, David Bates & Peter Hunter) will manage the fixture and will assign players to a court to ensure balanced games. Groups will depend on attendance, prior results and player rating, i.e. Cumulative results will be used to determine which court players are allocated for subsequent fixtures, based on attendance.
Players will play a minimum of 8 games and a maximum of 10 games at a session.
The order of play will be displayed for each court and one player per court will be asked to collect the result of all the games on the order of play sheet. A player from each team will be asked to approve the game result.
The order of play ensures that each player plays with every other player twice and against each player between 3 and 5 times (based on 6 players in the group).
Match results will be populated into a league table for the fixture & this will be published on the Pickleball England website.
The format allows for players to move between groups based on their results.
A note on DUPR - Results will be published to DUPR once per month following completion of all regional league fixtures. Only matches where all four players are DUPR registered will count. Players should not load their own results to DUPR.
Terms & Conditions:
1. Players accept that the League Leader(s) will assign them to a court, and they will play with everyone else assigned to that court for the fixture.
2. After the fixture, the results of prior fixtures will be leveraged to determine court assignment for following fixture(s).
3. The League Leader or fixture leads decision is final.
4. All players must register and pay ahead of each session. Registration will close 24 hours before each fixture or when capacity is reached. If a registered player cannot play, a refund will only be made if a paying replacement can be found in time.
5. Standby registrations will be accepted, and this list will be used to find replacement in the event someone withdraws on a first come first served basis. The Standby list will also be used to create an overflow fixture should one be held
6. Players accept that pictures or video may be taken during the session and used by Pickleball England.
