What is the Pickleball England Doubles League?
The intention of the doubles league is to give competitive players the ability to play on a fairly regular basis with players of a similar level from other clubs within their region, in a competition outside of tournaments or club leagues.
We want the competition to be:
- Fair (the structure of the competition shouldn't favour any individuals or groups)
- Even (the groups should be evenly balanced so that there will not be excessive targetting)
- Fun (getting to play with lots of great players who all want to be there for fun should equal fun!)
- Transparent (clear rules; accessibility to the results and league tables)
Finally, we want to raise some funds for Pickleball England to help grow pickleball.
How it works
Players sign up and pay for session prior to the day.
Michael de Groot is the league leaders and manages the session and based on attendance will assign players to a court to ensure that skill is evenly balanced.
Players will play a minimum of 8 games and a maximum of 10 games on the day.
The order of play will be displayed for each court and players take repsonsibility for writing the result of all the games on the order of play sheet.
The order of play ensures that each player plays with each player twice and against each player between 3 and 5 times (if there are 6 players).
The results of the matches will be populated into a league table for the session and will be published on the PickleballEngland website.
All the results will be consolidated into a cumulative speadsheet, which will award points for wins and losses based on which court players played on, to create an overall ranking table. This ranking table will be used to determine which court players will be allocated to next time, based on their attendance that month.
The format allows for players to move between groups (courts) based on their results.
Terms & Conditions:
- Players accept that the League Leader will assign them to a court and they will play with everyone else assigned to that court for the duration of the session.
- The league leader will check DUPR results for each name entered and will query your self assessment rating if anything looks questionable. Please get in touch via the enquiries tab if you have no rating or a very low active rating, so that a judgement can be established between you and the League Leader.
- After the first league session and if it is possible and you have played in previous sessions, the results of those sessions will be reviewed to determine court assignments.
- The League Leader's decision is final.
- All players have to register and pay ahead of the session. In the event that someone that has registered cannot play, a refund will only be made if a replacement can be found in time.
- Standby registrations will be accepted and this list will be used to find a replacement in the event someone cancels.
- If someone is on standby and doesn't get to play, they will be given the link to register for the following session several hours before everyone else, in an attempt to give them every chance to get into the following month's session.
- Cancellations within 5 days of the event date are not able to be refunded.
- Any refunds will be minus 3% card fees.
- All scores will be uploaded to DUPR, please ensure you have an account on dupr.com
- All players will abide by the players Code of Conduct and any violation will be investigated.
